An Independent Pub and Proud
The George reopened it’s doors in the summer of 2016. After being left derelict for years, our mission was simple: to return Maulden’s nearly 500 year old pub back to it’s former glory.
We wanted to create a sociable, cosy space. Somewhere for everyone to feel at home, over drinks and food with family and friends.
That goal soon extended to overnight stays too, with the opening of our rooms in the summer of 2017.
It was then we started to play host to some of Bedfordshire’s top musical talent too. And by our second Christmas you were wanting to celebrate even more occasions with us.
Our room ‘upstairs’ became the location for all sorts of celebrations; milestone birthdays, anniversary meals - even intimate weddings!
And our courtyard evolved too, from a traditional pub garden to becoming a sheltered, alfresco dining spot.
‘George St’ - our outside bar - and our garden room opened summer 2018.
Covered and heated, it’s summer in our courtyard whatever the weather. Our saviour when we all began to social distance in 2020.
The past few years may have bought many challenges; not only as to how we operate, but on our team too. The industry still - very much - in a tough spot.
But we believe in The George; in our service, our team and in you - our guests. That’s why in the summer of 2023 we made even more comfortable seating in outside in our courtyard and inside in our garden room and courtyard.
Thank you for your support. We are here for you. And we can’t wait for even more good food and good times ahead.
